Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

I will be moving from Calif to Idaho in the next 2 to 3 years. I am looking for 10+ acres with creek or pond against a hill to shoot.

My driving job had me making deliveries through Vermont quite a bit this past year and I really like it up there and I agree with everything you said. There is one problem though. I don't want to live in any state represented by Bernie Sanders!!!:lol:

I understand. However, he cant live forever...not every Vermonter is a believer....his staff has done a lot of good for a lot of people here, for me in particular. He's like the not quite sane Uncle that your mother warns you to stay away from at family gatherings. He had a little rally in Middlebury VT last summer. Middlebury is Liberal Education ground zero. Money central. You would think that logically, out of 603,000+ residents of the state, around 30-40,000 might show up in support? Nope, he spoke from a tiny bandstand in a tiny park to a crowd of MAYBE 300 people. The majority of whom seemed to be gay/lesbian couples, hippies, commune dwellers and homeless people. The patchouli and BO was strong on the wind that day. lol. He's no real threat to anyone. His message will never win against the national machine. The powers that be want the country to keep on churning out GDP into their coffers. Bernie is anathema to that aim.

On top of that...

Culling all of the old/unwanted stuff that is no longer needed takes a lot of time. Selling that stuff requires even more time. Packing what you will keep takes forever.

The spouse might require even more time for her stuff. The women folk like to reminisce as they look at every item. Get her started now!

When we moved to VT in 2012 I came 4 months early. Alone. lol. By the time the moving truck arrived she had gotten that crap out of her system. We are regular downsizers anyway, it's a habit of career military folk who have to move every two or three years, often to the other side of the planet. Lean and mean. She asked me before I left if there was anything special that I couldn't bear to part with. My reply, my Harley. lol. Joking...I said, her. ...and the bike...

We have talked about that.
We don't have any sentimental attachments to most of the furniture. I'd take the TVs and electronics, the beds, the pictures and framed art. Clothes, VCR tapes, DVDs, photo albums and such.
I do have some car parts that are a tough sell though. I hate to throw them away but who wants body panels for a '60 Valiant ? 64-66 Barracuda?
I want to haul all the cars back with me. Three currently don't even have engines in them. I am looking to sell a '65 Valiant convertible but I am willing to keep the '71 Duster and the Stunt Dart.

Good on you. I have a ton of stuff and dont want to get rid of any of it. Hell I even priced out a car hauler to carry all five of the cars to texas. How stupid is that?
 
It is not stupid if it is what you like.
I have a few vehicles too. Most are running and driving but for the ease of it all, I'd ship all but 3 of them. The ones I'd ship could be stuffed with parts to save space on the moving truck !

He doesn't have a lot of impact...People seem to believe that Vermont is one giant commune/collective. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are a good number of such people but they are not the majority. They exist here because the farmers , who like most VT people, minded their own business when the hippie dippies discovered all the greenery and pastoral vistas, free of commercialism. There's only so much land in this tiny state, upon which cows can be grazed and upon which hay can be grown and harvested. The rest is where the hippies settled. The farmers didn't see the hippies as a threat of any kind. The farmers didn't care, they weren't using that land. Northern VT is ate up with them. North East Kingdom is a quiet section with few people and rolling farm and forest land where people REALLY mind their own business. I live 9 miles from Liberal Ground Zero, Middlebury, VT, and you would never know it. They might as well be 100 miles away.
Lots of farm families place their land into the Land Trust. That way, if their kids decide not to farm any more they cant sell it to developers to build crappy townhouses on. It stays farm land, period. Ensuring VT remains pastoral and beautiful. There's no end of shysters trying to buy up fields and forest, mountain views and rushing pristine streams...not happening. Neither the farmers or the hippie dippies want that to happen. No billboards, by law. When I moved here in 2012 there was only ONE Autozone store. Only ONE Walmart. Now there's two Autozones and Four Walmarts. Three Home Depot. Two Lowes. Five McDonalds in the entire state. Look around the cities you all live in or near and do the same count. In Columbia SC, just one city, there's five Walmart's. No, i'll take VT over most any other place, Bernie not withstanding.

I'm trying to be kind, if the truth be told, I have many friends in California and a half dozen or so who left. I have been to California two times and the last time I was there I spent three days in an intensive care room in Monterey from the food poisoning I got in San Francisco. The sites are beautiful, but that's it. Lets just say my views are not properly represented by any official form of government and I don't have any plans on supporting people who hide in plain site and are rewarded for it. So with that being said, move to Missouri!!

There are many places in Missouri where you can hide and still get to a Autozone, Lowes, McDonalds. For years my family rented a log cabin in the middle of 350 acres and were ten miles from Herman Missouri, a beautiful old German community with wineries and rolling hills.
 
Texas. It all by itself, has the 10th largest economy in the world. It actually doesn't need the rest of the US to prosper. self=sustaining. Second most populated state. Many people moving into the state all the time. Houston and others are sanctuary cities. Liberal Dem cities. Many illegals continue to move in. Many left wing Dem. nutcases continue to move in to the cities and populated areas. That is a key point. One day the state will be another Calif. except the rural areas, and the populated zones will control the state. How long will this take, don't know, at my age I will be long gone!

I used to own 4 acres right above Arrowhead Head Point. Down near Branson. I have a pic somewhere of me sitting on a curb in Branson before there WAS a "Branson" tourist tap. Loved the rolling hills and deep valleys. Much like VT.
