NEED HELP!! The shop working on my 69 Charger is CLOSING!!

While getting your belongings removed from the shop, I would ask the current owner if they're going to reimburse you for the paid for work that isn't complete, or if they expect the new owners to do the same. When the shop was sold, did the new buyer also take over existing contracts?

Now YOU need to be the asshole and stay on these people like you know what.

Get your car, parts and everything else you paid for. Show up unannounced on there doorstep too.
Litigation is a last resort because you can't get blood from a turnip! Even if you get a judgment against them try to collect! 440'

No. From what I gather, the new owner is about volume and not about restoration projects.

Do not leave anything behind to pickup later.
Take a couple pickups and friends to haul all the loose parts, engine , trans ect.
You may only get one shot at this. Have your registration with you to prove ownership if needed.

You didn't say how you were damaged, so law dogs and lawyers might be premature. Don't assume the worst, but the advice to go in tomorrow might be pretty good. If they are moving out, they are sorting the shop and you can help. At least in locating and loading your parts. It's not professional to drop things on you like this, but they may have an emergency that forced this move. Now, if you get there, ready to prepare your car for removal and they refuse you the car, then getting a trailer and a Deputy would be a good idea. You still might not get your car, but you would have an Official witness.

The new owners want stuff gone, so they have taken over the business. They bought the liabilities of the company that come with the assets, so they are now responsible for your car and for timely notice of a change in the contract (even if it is verbal).

I wouldn't wait too long as the new owners might be thinking a Charger Grille and parts came with the sale.

Tonight, put together all receipts and records you have, then do a rough figure of where you and they might be as far as debits or credits.

Exactly, nothing in writing then don't even bother (don't bother with lawyer if no contract)

If he has receipts for money spent, that's a contract. Check the laws in that state. There are states that require written estimates and if they didn't give you one, they could be held accountable and in violation of consumer protection laws.

I would call the sheriff and see if they will go with you to get it.

Exactly, get the Sheriff and bring your documentation. Have transport ready and help to get your stuff.

I'm not sure I would wait for tomorrow. I might call the Sheriff tonight and see if you can go to the guys house or get him to let you in the shop tonight. At least, I would put the Sheriff on notice that there is a problem.

I don't want to be an alarmist but do agree that informing you on a Fri is suspicious and have no doubt this was not a last minute decision since he has sold the place.

Sorry to hear that. I agree with everyone. Get your receipts in order and call the sheriff or local Leo. Good luck with everything.

Drive over there right now and see if there is any activity; and keep checking throughout the weekend.

I would be at the shop first thing tomorrow morning with a trailer, a few buddies, and a Sheriff. Make darn sure you get everything that is yours.....

Man, I feel for you. Do you have any friends in the local police that you can talk to about this. Only you know your arrangement, and the people involved, can you get a feel for what’s about to happen? Owners attitude? Too bad you are too far away, I’d offer my help. In any case get everything you own out of there as soon as possible. Good luck.

I have paid above and beyond original quote for additional stuff and changes, and such.
Make sure you have only paid for what has been done so far....the new owner may not be keen to give any refunds for work paid for but not yet carried out.

Oh....and get your car out of there asap.

I’m sure we’re all wondering, we’re you able to get your car today? I hope all goes well and the new owner is an honest person.

Hopefully he is busy getting his car back home, or somewhere safe.
I'm sorry, but no, not yet. I will be going over in the morning to see where their heads are at. I went through and got all of my receipts and such together. Going to see if they are going to offer to pay for the hours it would of taken to reassemble what's not back on the car. I hate to think these folks would do anything ulterior motive wise to my parts and sell or steal them. I really appreciate everyone's words of wisdom and advice, and will take everything said into consideration. I will come back with the news once I get back tomorrow. I got a feeling i'm going to be hiring a lawyer, getting an estimate from another shop, and then suing them for the estimate, storage fees until the new shop brings it in, and lawyer fees. I think that's fair for putting me out like this. Wouldn't you?

as almost anyone, everyone else has already said;
"get it out of there now, don't wait"
get the car, all the parts, hardware, that you paid for etc.
home & in your possession 1st & foremost
worry about 'the finding another shop'
(or learn to do it/assemble it yourself) LATER

good luck
