Why does auto body paint cost so much ????? Are the prices set by the Drug Cartel in other conturies, smuggled acrossed the border. Do the Feds stop the flow of paint into the country ??????

Because of it's chemical make up. You are paying for the engineering of it and not the ingredients.

Lots of pricey environmental regulations to be met in production of paint and related supplies.

Gallon of ready to use Rustoleum 60 bucks. Gallon of Valspar LVBR100 600 bucks + reducer, etc.. hmmm Gallon of House of Kolors 800 bucks ++..

The reason for all of the "patina" paint jobs... lol

Paint is just one of the things that have gone crazy in the last few years it's the same with chroming.. I know 2 house painters and they said their costs for Materials TRIPLED in the past few years and there was a point they had trouble even getting some of the supplies needed.. Once they slam regulations on it many go out of business leaving hardly any choices.

We may resort to plastering/brick veneering our rides!

never say never.......I once ripped a piece of vinyl siding off the smashed quarter panel of a 68 barracuda...... it was screwed on and buried in bondo, badly

Good luck. House of Kolors paint and Klear supplies alone on my Bee were $6800 Cdn... and that was 7 years ago now! It actually got it's final coats of Klear TODAY in 2017.

I think many of the very expensive options are un-necessary...... our cars rarely see bad weather, even the sun for that matter.......

I have zero issue using a "middle of the road" base coat; covered with SPI clear....... could any of you tell the difference?
