All in all its a solid start. The 68-70 RR and Satellite is my all time favorite, just way out of my price range. My 71 Charger 500 project was WAY worse than what you're starting out with. As far as replacing the panels go keep 2 things in mind...your budget and the ultimate goal you have in...
My 71 Charger 500 is a Lynch Rd car and the tag was a total PITA to decode. Mine is a factory 383 car with a 8 1/4 rear with I THINK 2.71 gears if I remember correctly. If I can make it up to the shop this weekend I'll see if I still have my Lynch Rd info print outs in the glove box. Mine had a...
Nah I haven't gotten any new car **** in awhile. I'm hoping to this weekend though. The wife even mentioned using our vacation time and savings for Charger time...is she cool or what! And she takes way better pics than I do too.
Yeah I'm HOPING I got the fluid cleaned up quick enough. If not, I still haven't painted the car yet so I have plenty paint.
But with everything that went awry, it felt so good idling along in a big block Mopar through an old school chambered exhaust. Just no sudden stops LOL!
We decided to move our 71 Charger to my father in law's shop to have a lift and specialty tools at our disposal...great plan! Upon pulling the car around from the carport to the trailer, I not only blew out a new wheel cylinder, but also the new master cylinder...brake fluid all over the wheel...
Well yesterday I scored a complete 400 4bbl engine for 200 bucks. Suppose to have ran good when it was pulled. Best I can tell its a 1977 model. I pulled a valve cover and it was very clean inside and has 452 heads. Already have my gasket kit to inspect and reseal everything as well as a new oil...
Made a trip to The Metal Supermarket in Louisville today and glad I did that place is great. I got the square tubing and metal plates for the subframe connectors. I'm using 2"x2" square with 3/16" thick walls...its some pretty stout stuff. Got some 1/4" steel plates to make the mounting plates...
These are some pics of not long before I put it in the work shop to start on it. The rockers and frame have already had new metal welded in so that's a plus. As far as engine parts go I already have a new cam and lifter set, valve springs, oil pump, and timing chain set from a previous project...
OK my 71 Charger 500 is back in my possession. A family member had wanted to buy it but never coughed up the cash, so back to me it came. I'm at a point now where I have to make some serious albeit shade tree mechanic headway (for now). In order to keep a car where we live it must be licensed...
Definitely gonna driver her for now and rack up some miles this summer = FUN. So far it has new shocks, brakes, steering, suspension, rebuilt tranny, and freshened up 400 (that will hopefully start going in this weekend) Still needs ALOT of cosmetic work though.
Hopefully in the next year or...
I bought Heddmans for my 71 Charger with a 400. From the reviews I read, they are supposed to clear power steering, column or floor shift linkage, and all other things that cause Hookers to get "adjusted". The price wasn't too bad either. We'll see this weekend just how accurate the reviews are...
I have a little patch to do on the frame, then the engine will be ready to go back in this weekend. Today I got rest of the goodies I'll need to hook it up. $150 worth of the little gotchas...plugs, vacuum hose, clamps stuff like that.
+1 on way over budget. I find myself doing that alot. Then my wife finds me doing that so it's double trouble. Congrats on getting the suspension done. I refurbed most of mine last year. New ball joints, tie rods, shocks, bushings, steering box, and idler arm. I kept the factory control arms and...
I wish that was actual mileage lol. I'm sure it's rolled over atleast once...probably more like twice given the condition of the drivetrain. But she fired right up after cleaning the plugs and points and pouring a little gas down the carb. Can't wait to hear that sound again...
