1969 Road Runner....another one!

thats a GREAT CAR!! to start with!! give me a ring when your get done getting that undercoating out of your teeeth!!

:VB toast:

jeff

Did you know that when you're on your back trying to remove under coating, your face turns black? Pretty cool!

LOL :hello2:

your learning, how long did it take?? :headbang: are you done??:pottytrain3: LOL

I'm fairly certain that the genius' in Detroit knew a rookie was going to end up restoring this car and laid it on extra thick just for me! If they would have bottled that knowledge instead of making cars, Plymouth would still be around today! Hell no...not even close. I got 1 rear frame rail and 1 wheel tub done. I'll call ya in a year or so! :)

Not a big update, but all the undercoating has been removed. Also finished up removing the remainder of the seam sealer. About 10 hours invested into that little chore. What a dirty job....can't wait to start inhaling filler dust vs this crap.

I have decided to hire someone to do the blasting. My fathers company can't spare a day without the compressor. It's like trying to pull teeth to get a day with it and we can't make it work. I hired a member here to do the blasting. Not sure he wants me to mention him by name. He's watching this thread, so I'll let him chime in if he wants to. He should be picking up the car in the next couple of days.

Basement update: drywall, insulation, painting and drop ceiling done. Still have to finish up the electric, hang doors, trim and carpet. Shouldn't be too much longer on that, then I can start getting the baby's room put together.

Good work Captain...It's rough, tough, nasty work, but it is what it is. At least that part is behind you now. Looking forward to seeing her come back from blast.

And the demons have finally shown themselves!

Got the car back today from the blast booth. I have to thank Jeff (68427vette) for getting the car blasted for me. I can't thank him enough!

We have some issues. The car at some point was hit on the left side of the car. Several "demons" were found with wicked welding techniques and holes in the side of the cowling that aren't suppose to be there. I have to replace the right side inner fender and 2 pieces of the radiator support. (thankfully I can save the one with the numbers on it) Right side fender is destroyed...didn't even put epoxy on it. I thought I was going to be able to save the trunk, but it doesn't appear that is going to happen. I was hoping I was going to be different and wouldn't find much, but alas I am now one of you guys with the midwest rust bucket.

Here are some pics.....enjoy.

Welcome to Rust-Belt Restorations. You have offically been inaugurated Captain! Time to crank up the tunes, welder and the misses nerves.

Did that fender try to survive a Texas cow stampede? Holy smokes.

Texas cow stampede, hit by a meteor or a back drop for baseball pitching....not sure. :)

Had a couple hours this morning. So, I removed some more of the floor. I need to get a nice spot weld cutter, the one I have is dull already and it has only made about 30 cuts. What do you guys use?

Spin the bit slower, it'll last longer. I use a Blair cutter, or if I'm taking out junk metal like you are, I just grind that layer away until it peels off.

I need to find two footwells like you cut out, only good and solid on the outside edge over to about the start of the second factory hole. When they put a roll bar in my road runner, they brought it up right through the first hole and wrecked that part of it. I don't want to replace the whole thing since the rest of it is cherry.

Anyway, this is yet another project thread I'll be following here, threads like this one and Donny's fascinate me.

BTW, are those your work shoes? :D

Thanks guys, I'll have to give them a try.

BTW, I think I need to just be proactive and get a tetanus shot. I read another thread where someone made that comment as a joke, but I think it's a good idea. Everytime I come in the house, I'm bleeding. Most of the time I don't even know it.

Pretty sure that tetanus can only result from a puncture because of how the rust gets in the cut and you can't wash it out ... still better to be safe than sorry.
