I recently got my 88 Fiero Formula out of the barn for the summer and didn’t realize how old the battery was. Still cranks it over fine!

some batterys are simply amazing......some are just ****

I had one battery that was over ten years old and still kept cranking. I finally tossed it when the top posts would leak slightly and corrode the terminals and turn them black. The car would arc at the terminals and I would have to clean them more and more so I finally ditched it. Like Yella said, some are piles of crap and some seem to just never die.

7 so far on my red top optima.Still load tests fine. But my auto zone $99 cheapie lasted 6 and was still going strong when I gave it away.

My personal records are my previous lawn mower=13 years. Currently my 2007 CanAm 400 Quad still has the OEM battery.
Mike

My 05 Ram got 14 years while my SRT challenger got 10. I guess higher compression in SRT handicapped that battery.

My 2012 Challenger still has its original factory battery. My 96 Ram is only on its 3rd battery after 24 years.

My optima redtop is 12 years old in the roadrunner, still cranking just fine!

I have 10 yrs on a WallyWorld in my Charger now. Occasional charges with a desulfating charger helps, as does watching the water and adding a few oz of distilled when needed.

My wife's 06 Merc A Class has its original battery. After market batteries never seem as good. My DD's original battery lasted 8 years...the replacement lasted two with the same pattern of use. Hopefully the expensive and larger AGM battery I replaced it with will last lots longer.

My best is 15 years in a car/truck as all I had was used vehicals back then. My 04 Suzuki Eiger lasted 12 years. I generally get 7-10 years. Sometimes just the warranty period. Kim

I generally just have Lexus replace the battery in my DD cause they’re usually on warranty. They must be garbage batteries cause they never last more than 3-4 years. Apparently an upgraded battery made by interstate for Lexus. Always been disappointed in their quality.

12 years so far on my repro group 27 red cap. 2 small gel batteries mounted in series.

I had a red top Optima battery in a 84 Toyota 4x4 2.2ltr
bought it in 1997 for kids/beater,
it was in that for 2 years when I sold it in 1999,
I took it out put it in my 89 Yamaha gas Golf cart,
put the cheap battery from the Yamaha in the Toyota
that red top Optima in that golf cart, from 99 to 2007
when I sold the Yamaha golf cart to my neighbor Bruce
across the street
I put the 1997 red top Optima in my 99 Dakota SLT 5.2ltr 4x4,
like Nov. 2007 it was in the Dakota until 2015-ish,
put the 1999 Dakota's Mopar battery, was new in 2007,
I put that in my 68 RR, rear mount battery box
it's still working fine too after 13 years,
it gets a 2 amp trickle charge ever month for 24 hrs-ish,
especially when I don't drive it as much
just to keep it up
when the old org. 1997 Optima red top (org. from my Toyota)
finally swelled up & died, gave up the ghost
I prolonged it, I tried to keep it on a trickle charger, battery tender
for the last 6 months
finally died after 18+ years total, in 3 different vehicles

I did replaced it with another red top Optima, $220+ from Summit Racing
it's going on 5+ almost 6 years now too

You can say;
I've had extremely good luck with batteries in my Dakota & the RR
(both of which have Dakota mini starters, wonder if there's a connection)
or even my golf carts

I hope I didn't just jinx myself :poke:

now my tow rig,
2002 F-350 4x4 7.3ltr Powerstroke 5 speed Diesel Dually
with 150k miles
it has 2 batteries, it can barely make it 3-4 years
with the org. Ford Autocrafts/Autolites,
Ford warrantied/pro rated of course, still $200 out of pocket
my elderly dad drives it, as his daily driver, he love that big ol' truck
he paid for & replaced the batteries the last 3 times
(he's driving it, he pays for the maintenance, that's the deal)
unfortunately with Interstate's some wet behind the ears tech,
at some local tire store, convinced him to buy
(actually good tire service, but don't know **** about batteries)
both the last 2 times, they suck ***, last 2 maybe 3 winters each
they just don't last, it's on it's 4th sets of battery/s change since Nov. 2001

my Dakota & RR are both garage kept, that may help the batteries last longer
far less temperature changes, extreme cold or heat, draining the batteries :poke:

I told him the next batteries in the Ford "will be" yellow Top Optima's

enjoy
