Is your car capable of going cross country......Today ?

Before I lost the $2 worth of freeze plugs between the engine and transmission, I'd have had no problem letting my wife drive the Satellite cross country...without me.

My 68 could do it, but I'd want to take a few spare parts and tools.
Especially with the quality of today's electrical parts! Seams like today's auto parts store component's like voltage regulators, control modules, etc are complete crap anymore. You can do everything perfectly and a Chinese part is what usually leaves you stranded.

I'm hoping ours will be able to go back to MI as our daughter wants to see it in the Woodward cruise when it is finished.

Pretty sure the charger would but id need to carry gas I'm sure.

I think I can now safely say that I've got all the bugs & gremlins out of her and the reliability factor is high enough that I can say she is capable of a cross country run.

I always used my cars as daily drivers so sure but I haven't had my car together in many years now but even when it was being driven, it was doing it on a point system. But man, even back in the late 70's I was getting bad replacement ECU's for my 74 pickup from the auto parts stores. I solved that problem by going to the junk yards and buying ignition parts from recently wrecked cars. Pissed me off whenever I went somewhere and the ballast or ECU would be dead after stopping for a burger. Going to the stealership for that stuff wasn't cheap back then either.

Nope couldn't do it. My car doesn't sound like its shifting properly

Dennis H's 69 Coronet is a real "Runner"!
I know first hand......
At one point they were running 95 mph!
( A beautiful car)

My 66-300 wouldn't be a problem, except I would have to invest in a Tanker truck or 3!
My A-100 would be touch & go with either blowing a rear axle bearing or rear engine crank seal and a going thru a couple cases of earl.

Up until my rear end problems with vibration as of late I would have said yes. Truth be told I have over 9,000 miles on mine and up until now drive it to work probably 2-time a week. Taken several longer trips up to 4.5 hrs. Once I get the rear end back in shape I should have no issue going anywhere.

Running a G3 Hemi with fuel injection, all my parts are available at the parts counter and I really haven't needed anything yet. 20+ mpg on 87 octane...so I can go a few miles in between pit stops. 747 and I have been battling odometers to see who can drive more but sadly mine has been in the garage a lot this year....If I have one more problem with my 8 3/4 after this I am building a 9" out of spite!

I'm sure it could, now whether I would want to,
that is a different story all together...

Mine is more of a Street Beast than a Pro-Touring car...

I've been driving my RR around in 100* heat
the past few days no problems, even in severe altitude changes...
Never gets over 190* even idling...
Electric fans, electric water pump, electric fuel pump etc.

Fuel pig, even with just driving on the center 2 bbl,
that is when I can actually restrain myself, not open up the outboards...

Having no AC & much stiffer ride quality, far superior handling than OE crap
it's not made for cross country road trips, some of US people actually
build cars for themselves & not to satisfy someone else's wants & likes/needs...

Now across state or the county, around town or like me just locally, just fine...

No issues, when I did the org. Power Tour LA to Chicago
{had to bail, come back early, work stuff cut my trip short}
in my last 68 RR very much like this car, but
it had far more cam, heads, Valve springs, converter, gears etc.,
I had now issues;
other than crappy gas in some places on Route 66, just carry a bunch of spare
parts, belts, ignition parts, fuel stabilizer/water removers, gas cans, tools etc.

Cost factor was way out there, spent well over $10k in 9 days....

That's not what I build my cars for, not what I want to spend my $$$ on either...
I build them for me, for handling & performance,
mines a drag car in search of a corner, that can be driven when I want too
or for that nostalgic feeling while driving, makes me feel young,
all while beating on it, not for some cross country treks...
Been there done that, not what I want to do now, not what my car is built for...
Albeit I know I could do it, that is if I actually wanted to...
Hell I don't even have a spare tire, I wouldn't go cross country with out one...

My car had 75529 when my parents bought it in 1977, since then I've put on129,067 miles.
It's a touring car, made for going places.

My 'Cuda would - and I just started the engine for the first time Saturday!
I would have to get an alignment first...
But my 318 is indestructible!

You've still got me by 1,000:(, just turned 8,000 miles since it's rebirth. Too many irons in the fire this year.
