Been chasing a ping/detonation issue in my '06 Wrangler. Really don't want to mess with dropping the (19 year old, 115k mile) fuel tank to swap the pump if I don't have to...so today I pulled the injectors out of my '06, and out of Michelle's '06, and swapped them. Put her injectors into my Jeep (hers runs like a champ)..."just to see".
Pulled mine out...OEM Mopar injectors, pentastar logo, factory PN...and the housings look like they got full of water and froze. They had stress fractures on every single one of them. No fuel leaks....but I can't imagine looking like that indicates anything good about the internals. Pulled hers out...looked nearly new. Clean, no dirt, no cracks.
Left her injectors in her rail, put new o-rings on the manifold end of the injectors, installed her rail/injectors into my Jeep, fired it up, sprayed brake cleaner to check for vacuum leaks (none), and went for a drive.
I was either imagining it...or it idled smoother. And ran better. Ran a couple errands, got it up to temp, and pulled a long grade that ALWAYS makes it ping. Like, I have to feather the throttle and lose momentum, to try and get it to shut up.
With her injectors...I just drove it up the hill. No issues.
Once I saw those...fractures, or whatever they are, on my injectors, I was going to order new ones regardless. Nice bonus that it should actually run better, too! New set ordered, should be here (depending on shipping delays) sometime next week.
