Winter off season project engine compartment “clean up” and engine repaint.

I did mine with a hoist, motor and tranny already bolted together, but didn’t have a leveler, which would have made it a bit easier. It’s easy work, just a bit time consuming as you know.

Kind of you to say sir, assuming you’re talking to me. Just wait until it’s updated!!!

Just a little update. Somewhat warmer in NY today so I pulled the car out of the garage a few feet, degreased and power washed the engine. Next step will be to scuff up what paint remains, clean and shoot it.

Just a quick update. Heads and front of engine done. Intake manifold and its brackets next in addition to ignition wire installs on shields for cylinders 6,8, and 7. Water pump housing and pump refinished and oil pump seals replaced. It’s all getting another light coat when water and oil pumps are replaced.

Next up is extracting this d/s front valve cover bolt that the prior owner left for me.

Had a late model Hemi truck come in where the owner wanted to install aftermarket headers. In the process of swapping, he inadvertently busted one of the exhaust manifold bolts/studs. Unfortunately, he gouged the heck out of everything related trying to get it out. Normally, I weld a nut to the busted stud. In this case, he ground away so much material there was nothing to weld to. We pulled the head and sent it to a machine shop. The machine shop couldn't save it!

Wow! Long story to suggest welding a nut to the broken stud, without getting your weld attaching to the head. Twist the nut -- welded to the broken stud/bolt, and BINGO! (Most of the time.)

Thanks Mike, that seems to be the consensus, but I don’t have any welding skills and I hate to r&r the head. Guess I’ll figure something out…

Now that the real cold weather has seemed to lighten up a bit here in NY, I’m back to work. Here are a few newer pics. I’ll be touching up the bolt orange heads with a brush. The bolts holding the accessory brackets I’ve still got to figure out.

Spent a few more hrs. in the garage today. Exhaust manifolds on, all wiring complete inc. new plugs, rotor and cap. Heater hoses connected, carb and coil
mounted. Waiting on water pump (FlowKooler) and still have to detail the ps pump. Dropped radiator off at shop for recore, should have that back mid week. Ouch $650.00 .

Just finished my off season engine bay referb!!! Ordered my TTI down pipes since I scraped my headers but they are still a few weeks out, but everything “topside” is complete.

Installed my TTI downpipes, now I’ve just got to tie them into my existing exhaust, completing my off season engine compartment refresh.
