Got back a week ago from vacation and had a great time. I have spent the last 10 years rebuilding my Charger just for this trip so I'm kinda bumed now that it is over. It is officially a Route 66 veteran.

I have been going through my 1200+ pictures and finished puting them into a timeline format with some naration.

We covered 16 States and 6260 Miles in 18 days.

For those that just want to hit the hi points look at...

Day 10 & Day 13
Day 15 Grand Canyon

The Charger performed very well and the only issues were a lost torque strap bolt, lost exhaust collector nut resulting in a small exhaust leak and I broke a door handle rollong down the window.

I am SO_O_O_O jealous;a trip I had planned on doing on my bike for my 50th birthday, but the recent divorce(recent in that time frame) put the brakes on that. Thanks for the pics and story-way cool!

I'm hoping to do a very similar trip one day. Looks like you had a great time and the car performed well. Congratulations on a job well done!

Nice trip and great story Steve. I'm sure there are a lifetimes worth of memories to go along with your trip.

I love to hear about folks who use their cars the way I like to. I try to make at least one long distance trip a year in my 65 Coronet conv, and many weekend trips a summer. Last summer I drove the entire length of the Blue Ridge parkway and Skyline drive going to Carlisle. Leaving on the 15th of this month for a road trip from Birmingham Alabama to the Upper peninsula of Michigan and the shores of Lake Superior...down through lower Michigan and home.... About 3500 miles and all secondary roads.... NO INTERSTATES....!!!

Would love to hear other stories of long distance road trips in vintage cars....

out of curiosity did you change out your rearend gearing to something like 270 or something to help with the fuel costs and wear and tear on the 383 at highway speeds?

Thanks Bluefury
The trip was lots of fun and I'mreally glad I did it in the Charger. I would like to do Carlisle someday and ODZKing in NY has talked to me about doing it. maybe someday when I can get another three weeks off work or maybe ship the car back thier first.

I run 3.55 in the back and have a 5 speed with a .68 over drive so most oft he time I was between 1800 and 2300 rpm.

Ahh ok...that 1:1 standard gearing 4 speed would have killed the trip. Do you have an aftermarket tranny like a keisler or tremec with the 5th gear?

Great stuff! It was a pleasure to talk to all of you at the CEMA show, what a great trip thanks for sharing this photojournal.

You going to Pictured Rocks on the Lake Superior shoreline? A beautiful park, Michigan is beautiful, you will certainly enjoy yourself. You also owe yourself a stop at the WPC Museum in Auburn Hills and a cruise down Woodward Ave. while your here.
