Where do you park, stay, and eat? Congested as hell.
2 1/2 week road trip from Massachusetts to Florida and back

We stayed on Anastashia Island. Wifes cousin owned a condo we rented every year , sometimes twice a year Otherwise an ARBB is your friend
Only coming to the main land a couple times during a weeklong visit.
Last time we were there was maybe 7 - 8 years back and it was definitely getting busier than in years past. So cant comment on what its like now. We had been going since the early 90s As the wife had family on the Island we loved to visit all the time. Good people, ( both gone now ) may they rest in peace.
Parking on mainland was best find a place and leave the car there all day, take the trolley around town. There are smaller lots around town besides parking at the Fort dead center of town
As for food , we tried pretty much them all. MOST of the good / better ones are little local mom - pop joints on the Island , IMO
Scarlet Ohara's, Harrys ( both can be a little pricey ) , and a little place called Pizza Ally ( GREAT pizza btw ) on St George street were a few of our staples on the mainland . There was a seafood place right next to the Bridge Of Lions on the main land side that was good.
There used to be a 2 story place down on A1A maybe 20 minute drives south of St Augustine on the right side of the roadway. Was amazing. But dont think its still there

My Grandfather was a higher up with Bell Telephone. He was very straight laced and all by the book. He talked of traveling the country with his wife when he retired. She died of breast cancer 9 months after he retired. They never left home.
That was a life lesson for me. When I retired last year, I had been to 46 states and 37 countries, driven millions of miles, and now get to revisit any previous memories and make new ones as needed.
Bottom line, if it's important, don't wait, there are no guarantees in life except for the last one.

I was thinking about the Blue Ridge, but not sure how it would be in the mid-March. Thoughts?
If you feel the Florida south is in the program, miami is cool with all the art deco on the beach, the latin side to the west is fun indeed, party city if thats for you.(10 times I think so far for me)
We prefere the keys though, Ismarelda is our fav but eveything down to key west is just beautiful indeed.
Key west is cool at night, the restaurant and bar life are just crazy.

So Florida is basically off limits for the month of March.
They don want anybody, especially the Spring breakers.
All the rest of Florida is on edge, as they are worried of being the new hot spot and being invaded.
My advice, don't go south of Orlando or to any of the beaches this year.

spring brake is just what it is, **** load of drunk kids, only some cities for a couple of weeks,
Florida must be allot bigger than you think!, even if you live there!
I had a place in Naples for 10 years, decided scottsdale was better for us and sold.
Still love Florida and we spend time there to this day, the keys are one of my favorite places in this world!
Get off it buddy.... and quit drinking this early in the day!

We generally stay at Anastasia state park, but we camp. Wife stayed at Residence inn on A1A a few weeks ago for her reunion planning group, said it was good. A few years ago we went to the city, we parked on the beach side of the bridge and walked over. We like Osteens, just a couple blocks down from where we parked that day, for seafood, bring cash (no cc) and get there early. Aunt Kates, several miles north on A1A is good as well.

Since Submit doesn't have to babysit today (her usual day) because the granddaughter is sick, we're actually now going to leave Friday morning & II think we'll drive to Harrisonburg VA and hit Skyline Drive first thing on Saturday. From there, we'll wing it.
Taking the new (to me) F150 crew cab. With a 157" wheelbase, the thing rides nice, is comfy to drive & with the 4-doors there's plenty of room. Plus, the V6 Ecobeast will get mileage in the low 20's & with the 36 gallon tank, it'll easily go 650 miles.
From here to Harrisonburg is about 565 miles and I generally set the cruise control to 72-73 which is a good cruising speed for the amount of miles we'll be driving.

Over the decades, pulling over to check out a location that just caught my eye, has been very rewarding I have found.
We are lucky to live in a country that has so much to offer.
I usually when returning from a road trip, need to take time off to recover.

I replied that in the past week Miami Beach has divulged March is out of control with past spring breakers and please do not visit, and I provided a link (my guess you didn't read?), of many, to support my contention.
I also mentioned that the spring breakers are likely to go elsewhere in Florida (yes big), and nobody knows where, and many Florida cities are holding their breath.
What again has got your feathers ruffled?

I guess I missed the part about spring break time, my mistake, my apologies, we did Fort Lauderdale as a spring breaker in 80 or 81, never wanted to go back for that crap.
Having said that I love the gulf coast side of your state and a close friend has a 30 somthing unit hotel north of hollywood that we hit every few years on the ocean side.
Come up to the great lake state in the summer, you will not be disappointed!

Funny you should mention Harrisonburg RC. Several years ago, we were camping near there on Skyline and had to go to Walmart to get a spare tire. On the way there, we spotted this cute Italian place and the 4 of us decided to eat there on the way back to the campground. Well it was pretty good and we were staying another night so we ate there 2 nights in a row. That’s saying something, since we usually cook outside while camping. (That’s if you like Italian) It’s actually in Elkton.

Made it down to Luray,VA on Friday and toured the cave there. Pretty spectacular! I wanted to drive on Skyline Drive on Saturday, but rain and low clouds prevented that, so we drove straight down to Savannah to stay for the night. Thinking about driving the inland route on the way back to see what we couldn’t on the way down.
With only about 3 1/2 hours left to drive today, be at our friend’s place on the west coast before noon. The 77 degree temp yesterday wasn’t too tough to take compared to the high 30’s-low 40’s that we’ve been used to back home.

My wife and I found a beach on the east side just north of flaggler beach called beverly beach, Its an rv park that we've stayed at several times right on the ocean good for a secluded nothing to do but relax place they have small converted campers into cabins on ocean front nothing special but clean. we use it for a home base and venture out from there into the masses. my trips usually only consist of 4 or 5 days, so its ideal for us, pretty much have your own beach. this is about 10 am on a 75 degree day standing on the little deck attached to the cabin. earlier this year
