Test fit is good for the wheel tub and door. Tail panel needs some work along with a lot of small rust repairs in the rocker and roof support. HOLY SH*# is that quarter a pain to get on right at the lower edge of the rear window!!!!

Looks amazing! That should be good to weld the pan, wheel housings and extensions. Before you weld the quarters, get the trunk lid bolted up. Welding new metal into place was my favorite part.

Thank you Threewood. I really appreciate your feedback. My thought was to weld the wheel housing but I wasn’t sure about the trunk pan and extension. I ordered a spot welder so once that arrives I’ll get started!!!! Do you know for spot welding do I have to clean up both sides of the metal surface on each piece to weld?

Spotted this up at the media blaster I use.

In terms of getting both quarter panels on so that I can fit the tail panel and the Dutchman panel, is it OK to have both quarter panels removed at the same time? I will have the trunk floor and passenger wheel tubs welded. I’ve gotten and read mixed reviews on removing both quarter panels at the same time. Currently no additional bracing in the car.

Personally, I would keep as much original metal as you can and build off of known placement. The AMD Dutchman is known to have issues with fit. You will also want to test fit the rear glass and trim before welding it in.

Thanks again threewood. Unfortunately pretty much all of my rear end is totally gone. Not much to go off of. I was able to line up the new tail light panel with the old drivers quarter Which actually fit right on top of the old one.

Tons of welding tonight. I know, thousands more to do!!!

Spent the afternoon taking apart the rear end, cleaning up all the metal to be welded and reassembled. Lesson learned, clean up all of the edges to be welded prior to fitting anything together. My spot welder showed up today also.

I’ve been doing some research and trying to figure out what is the best primer/protectant to spray on all of the exposed metal under the quarter panel and around the area of the rear window mechanism? I want to seal up all these areas that rusted through before. Should I use an epoxy primer, metal etch primer or does it matter what kind of primer or use?

I would use epoxy primer on everything you can get to with a spray gun. On small spaces where metal comes together like flanges and panel seams I poured Rust Bullet coating into them (like the door bottoms where the skin is folded onto the door frame). Actually, I coated quite a few exposed areas with Rust Bullet and so far so good.

Awesome!!!! Thanks again threewood. Prior to epoxy should I use a rust converter for any risidual rust?

You want the surface to be clean and rust free before epoxy, same as any other paint. Some paints don't stick well to a rust converted surface so check with the manufacturer. I'm sure someone can chime in with top coating a rust converter, I'm not a subject matter expert on it. I had my car blasted so the blasted surface got epoxy and the nooks and crannies that didn't get blasted got Rust Bullet. I'm sure there was some overlap on the two but you certainly want a clean surface for the primer.
