Sort of related story: In a college sociology class (required curriculum) I had this female instructor, nice looking blonde maybe only 8-10 years older than I was, that liked to send signals how she didn't like white guys. As long ago as this was, she enjoyed telling us sorts will have more difficulty getting all the 'good jobs' with equal employment opportunity laws enacted around this time. I replied "Isn't it, or shouldn't it be simply about who the best candidate(s) are for the job...grades, experience, and other qualifications specific to the job?" I had already worked in the real world for a few years before going on to college and had held a supervisory position in a machine shop. We had people that wouldn't show up for work, repeatedly late, or would constantly **** up their work (they often had a listening to the right way to do the job problem), or only wanted to do their 'favorite' jobs! Friggin nightmare trying to get jobs done on time with my boss saying is that job getting out the door TODAY? Then I'd have to work 3 or 4 extra hours, load the truck and drive it to the customer so it got there on the day we said it would be there. Favorite people? I had them cuz they'd go the extra mile when in a crunch...they weren't lazy and didn't bitch unless there was something to bitch about. Sharing these experiences with Miss Sociology was a kick.
