What is everyone working on in the off season.

Easy, place the angle finder on the rear cover bolts. They're 90 degree to the yoke C/L. I've done it both ways. The angle is with-in .1 degree.

i measured it today...driveline is 1 degree down and the yoke looks like 2 1/2 degrees down also(measured from the back of the dana 60) for a total of 3 1/2...thats with 4 degree shims already installed...whats my options to get it to around 5-7? leaf spring car..cut the pads?
 
8° shims are available from summit, plus many smaller than that. Search pinion angle shims, I think I saw 169 results.
Edit: I sure would try more shim before I went to the trouble of moving the pads.
 
Either cut the pads or build a tapered lowering block. If you build a block you can taper cut one side to what ever degree you desire. Drill a hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the spring locating pin in the block. Press a pin (same length as the thickness of the block) in the block until it protrudes the same distance as the locating pin in the spring. Then open the hole in the bottom of the block big enough to slide over the spring locating pin. You may need longer U-bolts. 1/2" block won't lower it much. Or you may want to go thicker and lower it.

what about the spring alighnment bolt,,,when i was installing the shims,with the thicker units the stud was barly in contact with the perch's..
 
I would ask a spring company how to safely put a longer bolt in. Maybe several good c-clanps to hold the springs together?
I don't have a good answer, that's why I suggest asking a pro.
Edit: maybe the thicker wedges have a pin cast into it.

i know cutting the pads is the way to go,done it before,easpeasially with the amount the angle needs to drop ,dana 60 feels like its as heavy as the motor....almost a good time to just install ladder bars/coil overs since i would only have to use a hole saw and put 4 holes into the 2x3 boxed back half frame rails...and torch off the pads..
 
There's always the right way to do things. I somehow manage to not do it that way, more often than not, LOL.
Edit: I didn't see Doug's post till just now. His solution is MUCH better than mine.

@67Coronet440, I can answer that, cause I have the same manifold. It's a max wedge port, dominator flange super victor.
I made an adaptor to be able to use my trusted 850dp until I can get a dominator to dial in.

They sure aren't as big as my old iron max heads.
 
some body decided they wanted pro stock size tires on there b body...its been back halfed with leaf springs,and i added cal-tracs bars,dana 60 was custom sized to the wells...which measure 20 inches..and the 4.56 gears offset the large tires.it had 5.13's..at 65 mph , its taching 3100 rpm's going down the freeway..it scares the prious drivers when i blow by them at 75 down the freeway,,,has a vibration though at around 65+ and up mph?

I don't think you want 5 - 7 degrees down for Cal Tracs. If I remember correctly, it's more like 1 - 3 degrees down.

I was looking into it last night and it says the 2893 is for the old iron MW heads.

thats where i am now at 3 1/2 down,,should i just run the cal-tracs tight to avoid any chance of nose up? cars smooth until about 65 then it starts..
 
We want the trans and pinion C/L to be parallel under power. The rear axle rotates upward at the nose under acceleration. This is the reason we add extra pinion angle. Leaf springs move the most. Adding traction bars, Cal Tracks, etc limits this movement. Ladder bars limit it even more, 4 links more yet. It's very possible that the trans is angled down at the rear. In some cases if the trans angle is enough, the pinion could actually point upwards in relation to the ground. Remember parallel pinion/trans. Then add what ever extra angle your suspension type requires. read more here;
