Buyers remorse!!!

You wanted 800.00 for it you sold it to him for 500.00 so tell him to use the 300.00 you saved him to have it fixed

actually, I would think 800 is absolute top dollar for a usable sure grip in bolt in condition and borders on wishful thinking...... if it needs a rebuild, it's worth little more than scrap

I hate dealing with broke-dick cheapskates that live and breath low dollar deals. These losers want to play the game but their thin wallet and poor decision making skills screw them in the rear all too often.
The cheapest person spends the most.

Ok say I parted it out what's it worth 489 case big yoke and axle assume
The deal was it is what it is at $500 what would you guys say a it's worth as it's broken ?

Being as you were not there when he pulled the 3rd member and you don't actually know what condition it was "really" in its hard to deal with this situation. Since you are having to trust this guys assessment of the rearend. Like posted above he already beat you up for 300.00 right off the top. I'd keep my 500.00 and let him figure out that he can rebuild the thing with the 300.00 he saved by being a cheapo. He wouldn't take it back to a swap meet if he bought it there now would he? Sometimes you have to pay people to go away and 200.00 is the price you will pay for this to happen. But also with that same 200.00 you find out just how cool your friends really are.

Hey guys kinda trying to figure out what to do about this guy!
I sold a used 8 3/4 sure grip 3.55 gears 489 case! So was going to list it at $800 but I Know the guy and he said $500 is what he normally pays I felt it was a bit low but ok .
He got it apart and says the spider is jacked up and now wants $200 back .
He was there as I cut it out of the car and I told him the thing looked like it was road hard .
What should I do ?
This guy is a friend and helps me out here and there
Is it still apart? Can you post some pics of it laid out apart? Used set of loose 3.55's might get you 100 bucks but I'd rather spring for new gears vs trying to set up 50 year old gears but if the pinion is still in the case, going back together shouldn't be a problem. Summit has them for around 275 which is a bit surprising but Strange is about 25 bucks cheaper. There's an empty 89 case on Fleabag with a starting bid of 195 with 2+ days left and no bids. Seems like there are a lot of listings with several watching though. Dr Diff sells a new repro Powr lok for 395 then the bearing kit is 85 bucks and that looks to come with a seal, crush sleeve etc. New ring gear bolts are another 15. Btw, Dr Diff has a Powr Lok spider kit for 175..... https://www.doctordiff.com/powr-lok-internal-parts-kit.html

I had an issue similar to this on a brand new MSD 351W distributor I sold to a friend of a friend. He shows back up at my house with 2 buddies and his attorney and said it would not fit in his block and wanted his money back. Was going to small claims sue my *** over $175.00. I grabbed the distributor out of his hand threw his money on my lawn and told them to get off my property.
In his defense, I took it back to work and dropped it into 8 different 351W blocks and it would not go into 2 of them. The plus and minus tolerances were just enough. I turned the collar down slightly on a lathe to fit and then sold it for like $225.00 on C.L. later on.

Maybe instead of $200 you could throw in an extra Mopar item he needs and you don't.

I always thought that friendship was a relationship, not a dollar negotiation. If you can't come to a mutually agreeable understanding, then there was never a friendship, just an acquaintance . Unfortunately and it is a very old proverb " never do business with friends" business is business.
Well said!

Friend = Always there when YOU need something...
Acquaintance = Always there when THEY need something!

Get the item back and return the money. Problem solved.
Then don't ever sell anything to him.
That's crap. You can't make a deal on a car and then say you want some of the money back.

I lost a friend over $100 once.

Guess he wasn't really a friend even though we spent a lot of time together and helped each other out a lot over about a 5 year period.

Was helping me rehab an s-10 and one day got all bent about him doing all this work and me supposedly not coming over every day (about a 45 minute one way drive and I was there every Saturday, some Sundays and some days through the week). I never asked or expected him to do work on it without me there.
After I had helped him put a 350 in a jag xj6 on not quite as much but close to the same schedule.

After discussing in depth what each of us felt a "friend" was "supposed to be"...

... it finally got down to-

Me- "do you want to me to pay you?"

Him "yeah"

Me "how much, I got $100 on me"

He took it, I got the s-10 out of his barn, and those were the last words we ever spoke to each other.

I think you are concerned about a friendship that only exists in your mind. Tell him you changed your mind and ask for it back because you have someone that will give you $500 as is. For just a little hassle you have identified a poser and are better off. I bet he keeps it, and then you will know!

So i offered to just give him the money back and fix it myself! He much rather keep it he says and wants some money back . I'm just going to give him the cash and not sell to him in future
I’d be willing to bet there isn’t anything wrong with it, he just trying to take you over the coals! I’d either buy it back or no deal. I’ve had “ friends” like that before and called them out. We don’t need “ friends” like that

A deal is a deal, either keep it for the reduced price, or bring it back for a full refund. No hard feelings either way on your part, and you can’t do anything about his feelings in his part.

The part refund idea stinks in a few different ways. But you could still do it, but the only reason to give a part refund is to keep him as a friend. So the next time he is trying to buy something off you guess how its going to go...Boils down to how much you like having him around.

If he doesn't want his money back he is being unreasonable. He bought a used rear end as is and now he is wanting a rebuilt rear end for that price. Can't say he is a very good friend. I would tell him he can have his money back or nothing. You won't be losing much of a friend if he refuses that.

Sometimes you have to pay people to leave you alone.

I would ask him to pay 800, and hand him 200 back. Friends don't jack with a person like that. he is no friend.
