Is your car capable of going cross country......Today ?

Not, yet. But I don't much care for driving hours on end, anyway.

For you guys that do take long trips, please be sure you're insured for that many miles and accidents that far from home.

Last winter I removed the stock recovered 1970 bucket seats and swapped in a pair of Dodge Neon SRT 4 seats. They don't look anything like stock Charger seats but holy crap ! They are comfortable, they lock me into place as if I sat on industrial adhesive and they are cloth!
I also replaced the stock guages with a Dakota Digital setup. The ammeter wiring was eliminated. I added an auto dimming rearview mirror with temp and compass display but.....
I have yet to take it far from home! I drove the 2015 Challenger to Van Nuys this Spring because I was driving alone. Yeah, the car is reliable but I wussed out.

Easily, I have no doubt I could drive across the country and back without popping the hood and get 20 mpg doing it..
i probably could, but, i aint getting nowhere near that for mpg.
+ the bench seat isnt what i call comfortable. next car will have buckets. (and not the 5 gallon ones)
am radio............ yippee.
a/c.............. the top goes down, along with the gas pedal

i think mine will do it,,i would probably bring some oil, u joints and a back up radiator. i only drive about 50 miles at trip ,i would get nervous and start sweating bullets if i had to go cross country road debris, chipped paint on hood , ouch,,i couldnt do it,, lol.but having this b bodies only forum, and the quick help, responses from members, i guess i can.:steering:

After I had "finished" my car, I had nervous feelings when driving it. I always wanted to be within eyesight of it when I had the car out. I worried about road grime, rocks being kicked up by other cars, etc.
While I still care for the car, I am not like that anymore. I don't sit on the car or put stuff on it, but I do drive it with less anxiety! Guys like Dennis and Darius give me inspiration.

That's why mine still wears the straight-enamel paint put on in 1988. If too nice, it won't get driven. They can get filthy on the road. As far as comfort, I too have late model seats. From a fwd 88 Daytona found in a yard. Upside down. The Coronet rides like a cadillac compared to some choppy e-bodies I have ridden in. It feels great and comfy on the highway. I can't relate to being uncomfortable in the old car. Sound proofing keeps it somewhat quiet(er), and the ac is a must have. The 09 Challenger has 11,000 miles on it. I do at least 7k@yr in the Coronet.

Drove mine from Las Vegas home non-stop, don't recall the exact mileage but it took me 9 1/2 hours and I never got tired or butt sore. Corbeau seats. BIG fun!!!!

I love the notchback Barracudas!
Thank you!
I know it's not a B-Body, but I love this site!
I hang out at the a-body forum most of the time...
My b-body goal is a 68 GTX 440....someday!
(Also love a 68 or 69 Sport Satellite! )

Could I drive my car cross country???

I DID drive it across country last year - I put 5,800 miles on it that trip, and it was one of the greatest things I ever did. I plan to drive it on another trip when I can.

Like Dennis, I highly recommend driving these great cars. They bring so much more joy than when sitting in the garage!

Love your attitude, I've never understood the guys that shine, show and park em. When I built my car the main goal was building memories, it hauls my kids to the ice cream shop, Softball and Volleyball games, shopping, family get togethers, vacations and a **** ton of spirited driving and is rarely in show shine condition.

Just got A/C this summer.... perfect timing cause it's nasty hot in Ohio but I've got 32 degrees blowing out of the dash:thumbsup:.

This is very inspiring, thanks for posting.

That Sublime Road Runner looks great. You obviously maximized the wheel openings with about as much tire as will fit in there!

Thanks. It has 15x8 (4.5" backspacing) rims all around, with 245/60s on the front and 275/60 in the rear. I think they fit well and I am really happy with them.
