What did you do to your Mopar today?

I started the annual PITA of polishing the wheels.

Today I will be putting in the adjustable pushrods.
I discovered that the crank / balancer wheel, has small marks at 90 degree intervals. So I set the large timing mark at TDC for number one, and made a mark on the sump / pan for the 90 degree.

Valve lash operation here too. Stock non adjustable push rods were making too much noise. 318 was running fine. Just valve train noise. Doug sent me adjustable push rods. Put them in today. Started with number 8, easiest to get to. Pushrods are easier to turn with the nuts on the end. So I set them just snug, then added 30 thou of length. They are now tight and do not turn. I made a measuring device to set the new pushrods the stock length. And made a couple of spanners to snug the locking nuts. Should finish this job, and fire tomorrow.

Hydraulic I imagine?

Hydraulic I imagine?
Yes. New cam, hydraulic lifters, cam gear and chain, valve springs, inlet manifold and carb. First time for me with non adjustable valve gear. But is is adjustable now.
And another kind word for Doug. He guided me through the 727 shift kit installation.

Well got the headlight assembly all done after 15 flipping years....And for fun installed A/C valve then it was time to down a crap load of beers..

So you adjusted them all to the size of one cylinder?

Clackity clack.
Initially yes, adjusted all the pushrods to stock size, then put them in the holes making sure they were sitting on the lifters okay. Then starting with number eight, I adjusted all of them.
90 degrees apart. Needed to remove the carb to get the spanners on the adjusters. Was leaking a couple of drops from the fuel line, so tightened the clamp. Fired it up, watched all the rockers moving. After a while it shut up. Just a slight tick from one lifter, otherwise the mighty 318 is running quite well.
I advanced the timing a bit to 10 degrees. Test run tomorrow. We leave next week for a camping trip to remote places. Cape Scott to start. Top left of Vancouver Island.

Did a short test run this evening. Sounds like one noisy lifter, and I think I know which one. Furthest forward RH side. No 2. When adjusting the pushrods I could feel the pressure of the lifter as I turned the nut to lengthen the rod. That lifter did not have the same feel to it. I will listen tomorrow, not sure what with at the moment. I have three days to make it right. Otherwise we are motoring.
